Forum: movies Subject: Download - soundtrack missing in Premiere

Hi,

My previous post: "Audio problem, cartoons only" was nicely solved by Alexis who suggested using the VLC media player. Playback problem solved - a great solution.

However, there is another problem with the same files. When I import them into Adobe Premiere, only the video is there - no soundtrack.

Getting both sound and video tracks into Premiere is an important part of what I want to do with them, so I hope someone can help. Thanks very much

You'll need to transcode the MPEG2 files into a format that Premerie understands. People have reported success using the free Streamclip for this purpose. I suggest transcoding to DV with PCM audio.

Thank you AKB.

I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes.

SONY VEGAS is a much friendlier, more powerful alternative to Premiere, which has quite a few problems. VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO loads MPEG2 and most other formats easily. There is an inexpensive version, under $100, with slightly limited capabilities, tailored to home movie editors. I use its big brother, VEGAS, professionally, and it far surpasses Premiere in every way.

I looked it up:

$90 retail, less at most stores, and it comes with a DVD authoring program which is very good.

Hi FP,

Thanks for your suggestion and the link.

Now, if you can help me convince my wife that I really need another piece of software. No, seriously, I will go to the website you gave me and take a careful look at Vegas.

Again, thanks for your helpful suggestion.
